Our values
In our Sunday services, we aim to be down-to-earth, friendly, intergenerational, lightly liturgical and to enjoy a mix of contemporary and traditional music, and, in simple ways, to show an appreciation for beauty and creativity. We celebrate communion at least monthly.
Teaching is the centre of our weekly gathering. We aim to explain the Bible clearly and consider how the truths of Christianity touch and can transform every aspect of life.
We make time for discussion after each sermon because we aim to be a place where people can ask questions and express ideas without judgement. We hope those who may be unsure or even sceptical about Christian faith will feel able to come along and explore Christianity honestly.
We aim to engage in constructive dialogue with contemporary culture. We want to celebrate all that is good, and, at the same time talk about the many challenges to faith these days. We also want to encourage Christians to understand our culture so we can be salt and light in society.
We want to be a community that is positive and life-affirming, as well as down-to-earth and real because we think that being spiritual is about becoming more human rather than being ‘religious’ or ‘super-spiritual’. Becoming who God wants us to be involves moment-by-moment dependence on him, and it involves dealing with sin, which is liberating even if it can be hard.
Community should be at the heart of every church, as we try with God’s help to model how to live together and look after each other’s needs. Leadership is exercised by a team of men and women working in partnership, and we aim to encourage every person’s gifts for the good of the fellowship. We want, as best we can, to demonstrate that we have something attractive to offer by the quality of our life together, and by working together to do good in the city of Cambridge and beyond.
Encouraging families is a priority because family life is fun and is something to be celebrated. We want children to grow up as Christians and know that we enjoy and respect them, and that we are interested in them.
Safeguarding
At St Thomas’ Church, we have robust safeguarding procedures in place which we adhere to in all of our work with children and vulnerable adults. Please see our Safeguarding Policy for more information.
